The Heart Behind ZSAZA
As a mother of five vibrant children I’ve learned firsthand that staying well isn’t about perfection, it’s about rhythm, ritual, and resilience. Our household is full of life and movement... and, like many families, we are constantly having to fend off all sorts of sickness and bugs.
Supporting my family’s health year-round felt daunting at times and I knew there had to be a better way to keep us well, something grounded in nature, backed by science, and gentle enough to become a joyful part of our everyday lives.
Growing up in South Korea, my earliest lessons in health came from watching my mother practice the timeless tradition of seasonal immune care. I remember her slow, loving preparation of herbal decoctions in a heavy glazed clay pot, transforming gifts from her Chinese medicine doctor into remedies before the cold season began.
Watching her taught me the necessary link between preparation, patience, and potency of natural ingredients.
My passion for health led me on the academic path to Columbia University in New York City, where I earned a Master’s in Biotechnology and studied pharmaceutical drug development. I’ve spent years exploring the interface between nature and modern medicine, looking not just at what works anecdotally, but what holds up under clinical scrutiny.
So when I searched for something I could give my own children I was surprised by what I did not find. Nothing combined the integrity of clean ingredients, the potency of plant medicine, and the convenience I needed as a working mother.
I began experimenting with what I had in my pantry… honey from our own farm, herbal tinctures, vitamins, an inspiration that came from my mother-in-law who has been preaching about organic foods and toxin-free living long before it became a thing. I knew there was much to be discovered.
Determined to create something better, I teamed up with doctors, formulators, local farmers, and my powerhouse business partner, Leilani McNeill, a clinical herbalist, mother, formulator, and world-traveler whose knowledge has shaped some of the most respected brands in green wellness. With over 15 years of experience in clean product innovation, she brought the botanical expertise and formulation rigor I needed to elevate my vision. Together, we created ZSAZA Honey, a wellness brand rooted in ritual, science, and the natural intelligence of honey.
The name ZSAZA is inspired by Hannah’s imaginary dragon friend, a fierce, sweet protector who always looked out for her. That dragon now symbolizes the strength and sweetness behind every spoonful we make.

With experience in biochemistry, herbalism, and functional health, they saw families drowning in sugar-coated gummies and lackluster supplements, and knew there had to be a better way.
